ACTFL 2009

NALRC attended and exhibited at the ACTFL 2009 Annual Convention and World Languages Expo. We left Madison for San Diego on November 18 and returned on November 22, 2009. Our booth was open  to about 6,000 ACTFL members and other language professionals at the San Diego Convention Center and Marriott San Diego Hotel for ACTFL’s 43rd Annual Convention. The theme was “Speaking up  for Languages...The Power of Many Voices.” We exhibited in order to put across our message as publishers of African materials as well as propagandas of less commonly taught languages through NCOLCTL and ALTA in front of the most committed educators in the field. We also positioned the NALRC as an active supporter of ACTFL among other LRCs. We proudly participated at the 2009 American Council on  the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Annual Convention and World Languages Expo.

We were part of the teachers, administrators, method instructors and students of foreign languages at all levels   from across the world. The convention features above 600
educational sessions on such topics as: Assessment, Culture, Curriculum, Learner Variables, Literature, Materials, Methods/Techniques, Policy/Issues, Professional Development, Research, Specific Purposes, Standards and Technology. ACTFL Less Commonly Taught Languages SIG had a session on Saturday, November 21, 2009. Dr. Antonia Schleicher presented during this session titled “Fields and fluctuations in  LCTLs: lessons from Africa and Asia” She spoke convincingly with reference to her perspectives on her field’s accomplishments and challenges. We hope to be at Hynes Convention Center and Sheraton Boston Hotel for ACTFL 2010 convention coming up in  Boston, MA. We hope to leave Madison on November 17, attend the Pre-Convention Workshops: November 18, 2010 as well as attend and exhibit at the Annual Convention and World Languages Expo: November 19-21, 2010.
